Eight New Kind of Fish Found in Bali


Scientists from Conservation International discovered eight new species of fish and coral on the island of Bali, Indonesia. However, scientists do not give the name of the species.

Species found, including sea eels and small fish amongst the colorful coral. Mentioned, the fish has the appearance of this charming an important part of the environmental sustainability of coral reefs.

"We have conducted a survey in 33 places around the island of Bali and has identified 952 reef fish. Some of them we believe is a new species," said Mark Van Nydeck Erdmann, senior adviser, Conservation International, as quoted by The Independent, May 16, 2011.

In the study, the scientists conducted a survey in some areas of underwater tourism in the island of Bali. Among other things, Tulamben, Nusa Dua, Gilimanuk, and Pemuteran. When found, a new species that live at depths of 10 to 70 meters.

Erdmann said that their findings has not been named. But the fish are included in the genus Siphamia, Heteroconger, Apogon, Parapercis, Meiacanthus, Manonichthys, Grallenia, and Pseudochromis.

Marine survey that ended on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 then it takes up to two weeks. During the dive, the team also managed to find a new species of coral Euphyllia or froth.
